Jasna Jovićević is a saxophonist, composer, and improviser known for her distinctive approach to contemporary jazz, free improvisation, and experimental music. She has performed at major festivals across Europe, the USA, and Canada, collaborating with renowned international musicians and leading her own ensembles such as JJ Quinary. With seven solo albums, her work merges music and interdisciplinary concepts, incorporating extended techniques, and sound exploration through yoga. Trained in jazz saxophone at the Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest, she earned an MA in Music Composition from York University in Toronto, and a PhD in Transdisciplinary Arts Studies at Singidunum University in Belgrade. As a Research Associate in Ethnology and Anthropology, she has published with Routledge, Leonardo Music Journal, Musicology etc., and her monograph “Good Morning, Jazzwomen” was nationally awarded. She developed the Aware Improvisation method, integrating artistic research, mindfulness, and cognitive sciences into improvisational practice. In 2024, she was an Adjunct Research Associate at Tshwane University of Technology in Pretoria, South Africa, developing participatory arts methodologies in active social engagement.
